Morag Balfour (b.
1973) is co-chair of the
Scottish Socialist Party.
She was elected to this post at its conference in March 2006, along with
Tommy Sheridan, and re-elected at the October conference, along with
John McAllion. She hadn't previously been a central figure in the SSP at a national level or a member of the executive. However she'd been peace and disarmament spokesperson, chair of the
Glenrothes branch and the
Fife and Mid-Scotland region, candidate in
Central Fife at the
Scottish parliamentary election, 2003 and writes a regular column in the
Scottish Socialist Voice.
She is a
Quaker, a member of the
Iona Community, and active in
Trident Ploughshares. In 2001 she was tried and acquitted over a protest outside
Faslane Naval Base.

disability which means that she's a
wheelchair user, although she can walk short distances with the help of a
walking stick. She lives with her brother in Glenrothes.
